Welcome to the new Committee for 2013-2014.

The HSC AGM was held last month.  Heather Arnold (chair), Vick Sharp (Treasurer), Rebecca Woodward-Leth, and Raj Singh resigned from the Committee (Vick effective in July at the end of the financial year).

The committee is in great shape with new Co-chairs Suzanne Hannen and Tim Ellena, Jodie Nichols as Secretary and the Treasurer to be filled later.

Everyone is welcome to be on the Committee and it is a lot of fun.  Please contact any of the Committee members with questions or ideas.

Heather's AGM report was tabled as follows:

Clifton Terrace Home and School Committee
Annual General Meeting
Chairpersons Report 23 May 2013

I would like to thank everyone who has been on the Home and School Committee this year.  We have had a hugely successful year raising funds for CTS, which support the school in so many ways.

Tea by the Sea has settled into a well recognised (and attended) community event.  This year we received fantastic support from our school families, with greater than 50% being actively involved to make it the success it was.  This ranged from delivering fliers and baking cakes to donations, sponsorship, setting up marquees and hours of organisation and food preparation.  The CTS staff also deserve our thanks as willing workers on stalls. Thank you in particular to the H&SC for the helpful, smiling, happy approach to the task, especially Vick Sharp, Tanya Glenn, Rebecca Woodward-Leth and Marlo Fronteira for the hours of behind the scenes work.

We took a new approach to raffle this year, by increasing the number of tickets in each book.  This was a success and it is recommended that there be 10 tickets in a book next year.

School lunches unfortunately stopped when we were unable to find anyone to take over the co-ordinators role.  Thanks to Leonora Soares for keeping this going for as long as she did.  As discussed at a previous committee meeting, the plan is to take a new approach and have 1-2 school lunches per term: eg pizza or sushi day etc.  I will get this started with a Friday Pie day this term.

We held an Olympics Disco – which was a lot of fun for all.  The “bling” is a hit with the children and it’s a great chance to have a fun family event.  Wendy Anderson would have taken out the best dressed adult athlete!  H&SC helped out with school stationery sales and the Library Book week during the year.

We also took along a Sausage Sizzle to the Living Legends Tree Planting day and the Harvey Norman Super Saturday.  These returned a small profit to CTS H&SC and the benefit of these fundraisers to CTS is marginal compared to effort and time involvement.  We also sold a small number of first aid kits.

Olives were in short supply in 2012, which meant the H&SC had to work hard to eek out enough olives to make oil.  But oil we did make, thanks to the fine leadership of Fiona Terry.  The oil sold quickly and is an excellent fundraiser.

Petra Fidler, ably and efficiently, taught us the finer art of calendar making and mass production techniques – many thanks Petra.  Hundreds of calendars were created from the children’s beautiful art work.  Another very worthwhile fund raiser, which bought CTS a new laminator.  Calendars should be even easier this year!

The H&SC has supported CTS through subsidising the school camps, giving the teachers money for classroom resources and to Rosie for library displays.  The Transit of Venus event was also supported and a BBQ purchased.  Money has been given to supply sunblock for the class rooms, as a contribution towards readers for the junior school, IPADS, and is earmarked for a new sandpit.

To end with technology, we have a blog site, thanks to Aaron Fronteira.  This will rely on the H&SC for keeping it current – and it will be a great resource going forward.

What a year – it has been a lot of fun, and I continue to be in awe of the talents brought to the H&SC by members.  Thank you each and everyone for being a fabulous team to work with, and especially to those who are standing down from positions or resigning (for now) – please know that your efforts, achievements and gift of your talents to CTS has been noted and very much appreciated.  I wish the new HS&C all the very best for the 12 months ahead.

Heather Arnold
Chairperson

Having recently resigned as the Secretary of the HSC - Bec headed off to a tropical island for a well earned break with her family.

What a wonderful time everyone had at Tea By The Sea.  The Home and School Committee would like to thank everyone who helped support the effort to raise funds for our school.  It was a great evening for all.

Sunday 10 March 2013

Our annual fundraising event 'Tea by the Sea' took place on Friday March 8th.  Families and whanau attended the event which raised funds for our school.  Some CTS children were interviewed and asked what Tea by the Sea meant for them.  The word cloud above has some of their comments.

Sunday 9 December 2012

Warm greetings to all of the parents, caregivers, and followers of Clifton Terrace School.  We are the members of the home and school committee (HSC).  We have developed this link to the CTS website to highlight the behind-the-scenes work that we perform throughout the year.  Recently, we got together to celebrate the completion of another successful year supporting our school.  Here you will be able to follow the work of the HSC, and see all of the ways that we help support the programmes and student learning across the school.  We'll have a lot to share throughout the 2013 school year.
